Young Carers
Young Carers
are children who care or help care for someone who may have a physical or learning disability, a long term illness or mental illness. They may have help with their caring role, or they may be the sole carer, either way we can offer them our support through our Young Carers Club. We offer support to young carers from the age of 8 to 18 in their caring role, giving them a break whilst also giving them a chance to experience activities that they may not normally have the opportunity to take part in.
Our Young Carers club
is going from strength to strength with nearly 60 Young Carers registered to the project from across the District. The Young Carers meet on a Tuesday evening on a fortnightly basis by age group, to take a break from their caring responsibilities whilst enjoying activities such as cooking, arts & crafts, sports and a chance to just ‘chill out’ and relax with friends. Thanks to Clare’s hard work in negotiating and fundraising the Young Carers have also enjoyed outings to various places over the year including Sailing at Bradwell, Lee Valley Regional Park outdoor activities, Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre and summer holiday outings to Diggerland and Thorpe Park.Last year Clare has also worked hard to enable the Tuesday evening club to run throughout the summer holidays to ensure a break when most needed. The summer holidays have were cram packed with fun activities and trips and was finalised with a celebration evening in August to recognise and celebrate our Young Carers individual achievements.
